Why should my child receive one-to-one services?
As a parent, it can be scary and overwhelming to hear that it might benefit your child to speak to a social worker. However, this is a great opportunity for them! Participating in individual services can help your child further their social skills, emotional regulation, classroom behavior and regular behavior management.
How do i make a request?
Email ([email protected]) or ClassDojo is the best way to reach me. I am connected to every class on ClassDojo. You are also welcome to call the school. I will send home an informed consent letter for you to go through with your child, and upon receiving that, meetings can begin. That letter is attached below.
What can i expect?
All of my students are made aware of their right to confidentiality. Confidentiality will be guarded within legal and ethical limits of the counseling profession. Sometimes other counseling professionals may need to be consulted but the student’s identity will always be protected. If your child shares that he or she is being harmed, may be harmed, plans to harm himself/herself, another person or property, the social worker will share the information with parents or other appropriate persons.
Counseling is also not a guarantee to fix problems. It can help kids "grow their toolbox" to help handle and deal with problems. I start all my sessions gathering a student baseline on what they feel they need to succeed. Based off of the results from that, I will formulate a plan and communicate it with yourself and your student. Meetings will tend to be 2-3 times a week, always subject to change. Progress will be monitored based off of teacher observation, parent observation and observations I make.
